"'Men in Trees' Party at Vancouver Last Week"

Here is an article written by Province movie critic Glen Schaefer. (see The Province)
Out of the trees
The cast and crew of the late, lamented TV series Men In Trees got together for a farewell bash last weekend at the West Vancouver home of series stars and real-life couple Anne Heche and James Tupper. The U.S.-produced series, which featured B.C. locations as fictional small-town Alaska, had an appropriately Canadian send-off, says the Nova Scotia-born Tupper. Co-star and fellow Maritimer Timothy Webber (Jerome in the series) cranked out the tunes on his accordion until the wee hours. "He was out there pumping away," says Tupper. "It was Anne's introduction to Maritime music." And, hey, any relationship that can survive the accordion can survive anything.

"Child Support Battle Never End"

Here is a comment from popsquire.com:

Although the parties entered a settlement, this is not over. When it comes to child support, the battle never ends. As soon as Anne starts working on a new show or movie, expect Coleman Laffoon to seek more money from her. This is pretty standard for all family law cases.
In other words, child support litigation is the “Groove That Just Won’t Stop!“
Unfortunately I guess they are right!

"Anne's Marriage officially Over"

Anne Heche reached a settlement Friday in her contentious divorce from Coley Laffoon, agreeing to pay her ex-husband a $275,000 lump sum and $3,700 per month in child support for their 6-year-old son. Anne will also have to pay 75 percent of Homer's private-school tuition. The couple agreed to split the cost of any "agreed upon extracurricular activities" for their son.

Here is what Anne's representative tell to www.accesshollywood.com:
“After a year and half of litigation fees, Anne is in a temporary financial situation but is confident that she will move through this quickly. She will continue to take care of Homer and her only hope is that this will end as quickly as possible,”

"Anne Broke!"

According to People Magazine, Anne indicated that she can no longer afford to pay the $14,798 in monthly support, along with private school tuition for her 6-year-old son Homer, the mortgage on her house in Canada where "Men in Trees filmed," rent on her Los Angeles home and car expenses.
she wrote in the paper filler to the LA Court:
"I am continuing to look for work, but I have no offers pending and the impending strike by the Screen Actors Guild reduces my prospects for work even further. Since January 18, 2008, I have been unemployed and had no income from employment except for one very short-term contract for a movie role for which I received a total of $65,000, approximately the amount I received for one episode of 'Men in Trees. I do receive some residuals from previous acting work. However, the amounts are nominal and are offset by recurring business expenses that must be paid whether or not I am working."
She also said that she is $364,000 in debt—mainly due to her ongoing divorce litigation—and had only $34,840.93 in all of her accounts.
A judge on Wednesday gave her a temporary break, saying she didn't have to pay her next support payment to her ex-husband Coley Laffoon, covering the month of July. But Superior Court Judge Gail Ruderman Feuer ordered the actress to provide updated income and expense information.
You will find the court paper on

"Last chance for MiT"

Last Wednesday MiT have had 6.1 millions of viewers. It’s the best result since MiT is in this timeslot. Is it an effect of the Press Release of the Tree Campaign witch started the day before? It’s more likely because the show was following the Democrat debate which has been watching by 11 millions of people. Next Wednesday will be the last chance for the show to score. After that it will be off the air until the end of May. So tell your friends, relatives and neighbours to tune in because the show needs more viewers to have a chance to get a third season.

You can note that MiT will not air next week (Wednesday April 9). The next episode will air on Wednesday April 16. After that it seems that MiT will be on hiatus until May 28th. This date has to be confirmed. In fact the Women’s Murder Club is coming back with fresh episodes on Thursday night and it will shift Boston Legal on Wednesday night in place of MiT. That doesn't sound good and Fans can be concern about the third season because the ratings are too mediocre to draw the attention of ABC.

"Spread"

"Spread" is the title of the new comedy feature that Anne begins shooting this week. It's a sex comedy centred on a serial womanizer and his jilted lover. Anne is replacing Jennifer Jason Leigh who dropped out of the project, possibly because she and her husband are expecting a child. Anne Heche will star opposite Ashton Kutcher who is also one of the producers.

"New Project"

"Men in Trees" has finished its filming for the season, and Heche said her next project might involve flying to New York City to shoot a film with Alec Baldwin, She declined to reveal the movie's title but said the details likely will be announced soon.
Heche and Baldwin acted together on the New York City stage in 2004, in "Twentieth Century." "I hope we can bring the same chemistry to the screen," she said.

"Good and bad news"

OK, the good one first: Anne is Guest on Jimmy Kimmel Show on Mar 5th!
The bad one, the ratings for yesterday are bad, very bad:

  • ABC Men in Trees 5.66 Millions of viewers
  • NBC Law & Order 11.45 MV
  • CBS CSI: NY (Repeat) 7.96 MV
Not better than "cashmere mafia" which was in the same timeslop since January. Plus we have been beaten by a repeat.

"Two endings for the season finale"

Bicks revealed that "Men in Trees" shot two endings for the season finale.
"We are still deciding which ending to use," she said in a call with reporters last week. "One is a little more of a cliffhanger." Will the decision on the ending used depend on reading the tea leaves to see if "Men in Trees" stands a shot at renewal for a third season?
"It may," she said. "It may also depend on how we want to end the season regardless. They're both very effective endings."

February 27, 2008
"Don't miss the return of "Men in Trees" TODAY!!!"

Today 10pm on ABC. Tell it your friends!
By the way, Anne was not at the Jimmy Kimmel Show the other day. Kimmel said that she was sick. Too bad! Hope you will be better soon Anne.

"MiT back on the air"

MiT will be back on the air Wednesday February 27th at 10pm with episode 209 “Charity Case”. We remember that in the previous episode called “Sweatering It Out” we have left Jack in a big trouble in the middle of the Bering Sea.
Anne Heche will be a guest on the Kimmel Show on Feb 25th on ABC. Don’t miss it!

February 16, 2008
"What’s new about MiT ?"

The writers strike is over and some shows will be back on the set for shooting new episodes, but according to tvguide.com MiT will have no more episodes filming this season. Plus, a few days ago, ABC has given early pickups to nine of its top-performing series for the 2008-09 seasons. But MiT was not a part of these early pickings.
According to Jenny Bick (author and executive producer), in a message in her blog, that doesn’t mean that they will not pick the show for a third season in may, and once again she asked treehuggers to watch the show which will be back on the air for 11 new episodes, starting February 27th at 10pm.
So things are clear, the future of the show will depend on how he will perform in its new timeslot. So if you want to support the show, watch it and tell your friends to watch it.

February 4, 2008
"Anne’s divorce"

Anne and Coley will each be allowed $240,000 from the sale of their home to pay legal fees in their divorce battle. The money also will help Coleman Laffoon pay the rent at his current home and other expenses. An attorney for Heche, said he was pleased with the decision and said the Hollywood writer's strike has seriously affected her possible earnings. Heche also is under order to pay Laffoon’s attorneys’ fees. The fees to date total $41,000. Plus, Coley is seeking $22,000 a month in combined spousal and child support. The judge delayed a decision on that request until April 14.

February 4, 2008
"PLANT FOOD TREES - $10 for 10 TREES "

While MiT will return from his winter hiatus on February 27th, fans are organizing an online campaign of support in the hope of obtaining Medias’ attention. The tree campaign is to encourage ABC to renew Men In Trees for a 3rd season contract and encourage them to promote the show. The tree campaign aims to send 5,000 food trees to developing countries to be planted in honour of the show. The trees are anticipated to provide more than 1 million pounds of food a year.
So, fans have to send their money ($10 for 10 trees or more) to a non-profit organisation called “Tree for Live” on behalf of the ABC network. Then the certificates delivered by the organisation will be collected and send to the president of ABC Entertainment, Stephen McPherson.

"MiT News"

The shooting has stopped on January 17. No more script left due to the writers strike. James Tupper tell to the Canadian media how much the crew has been affected by the strike. Here are some excerpts:

"Actors are used to being out of work but I think it's scary for us and it's funny because there's kind of a family feeling in the cast and we're all just kind of relying on and supporting each other. Some of us are going to New York, some to L.A. and some are staying here, so it's a weird moment."

"Last night I was having a conversation with (Anne Heche's) assistant, this young woman Sue, and she was almost in tears thinking about what she was going to do with her life while we were gone and how she was going to make ends meet,"

Crew members who have "a month or two of savings and have established a lifestyle, I think all those people are just suddenly in jeopardy. They're all looking at their families, their mortgages and they're having to find a way through a difficult time,"

"Even if we come back, we're going to have at least a month off because it'll take them that long to produce the next script."
